Working Out 101

We all know that working out is not something you dream about. But, working out can be fun and relaxing! Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be super easy and most of it will be apart of your daily routine.

Here are some ways you can begin working out…

Exercise!

Exercise is a huge part of staying healthy. Not only will exercise make you feel good, but you will also look great! There are many different types of exercise you can do. Whether you are looking to gain weight, lose weight, or just maintain your weight. Here is a list of some workouts you can try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and overall you will feel really good about yourself:

  1. Cardio: Try running, or walking up the stairs. Just keep that heart rate up!
  2. Weight lighting: Now if you are new to weight lifting, start with lower weights and more repetitions. This will help lose fat and develop muscle definition.
  3. Yoga: This is a more relaxing exercise that still helps you maintain that healthy lifestyle and really helps with flexibility.

These are just a few ways to exercise. There are many different types and variations of workouts that will keep you in shape. Try to exercise at least 3-4 times a week for about an hour each time. This will make sure your heart rate is constantly up and that you are burning those calories! Don’t forget to take a rest day every so often (trust me, you’ll want those rest days).

5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out!

Lets face it, finding motivation to start a workout sometimes can be just as hard as exercising itself. There are many days where it seems nearly impossible to find energy to go to the gym. We are consumed by our inner couch potato and we search for excuses why we can’t make it to the gym. It’s time to change our mentality and become motivated to work out now!

1. Plan Ahead

Plan ahead and make weekly schedules. Write out the days you’re going to go to the gym in a planner or on your phone calendar. Treat working out like an important appointment or meeting that you cannot cancel. If you schedule the time and days for the activity, your mind and your body will adjust to the schedule. This will help you be mentally prepared for your work out.

2. Group Fitness Class

3. Treat Yourself to Athleisure

It’s time to work out in style! Toss out all of your old ratty gym clothes and invest in some real work out gear! Treat yourself to new athleisure. Show off those cute new lululemon leggings you just bought while you break a sweat! Find something that fits you and makes you feel good when you wear it! You can never go wrong with looking cute while getting your gym on!

4. Pick the Right Music

Music is a great distraction from the fatigue you may feel during a work out session. Make working out more enjoyable and choose the right music to listen to! Find music that your body will naturally move along with. Then create a gym music playlist and keeping adding music!

5. Morning Work Outs

Early bird gets the worm? More like early bird gets a good work out in! Wake up early and get that a.m. sweat sesh in before you begin your day! No worries about having to squeeze the gym into your afternoon plans. Hit the gym in the morning to get it out of the way! Morning work outs are a great way to boost your metabolism and gives you more energy to perform the rest of the day’s activities!

5 Ways to Improve Your Overall Health & Fitness

When trying to improve your fitness and become a better version of yourself, we are all guilty of wanting to see results in just a few days. Working out and eating right should be all that goes into it, right? Even those who work out every day aren’t always where they want to be. There are small details that may be holding you back in terms of getting the results you are looking for.

1. Breakfast

Breakfast is known as the “most important meal of the day”, but it is most commonly skipped. Breakfast is the meal that fuels your energy for the day. If it’s skipped, how are you supposed to expect your body to perform the best way that it can? Eating a healthy, well balanced breakfast will help kickstart your day with good eating habits and allow you to get the most out of your workout!

2. Set Goals for Yourself

Improving your health and fitness can be tough to stick to at first. Creating habits of working out and eating well is something that is hard to keep up with, if personal goals are not set. Setting goals for yourself brings excitement and energy to your workouts and your everyday lifestyle. A good goal tracker is Strides, it allows you to keep track of your routine. Say one of your goals is to lose a certain amount of weight, and each day your see yourself closer and closer to that goal weight, this motivates you to go harder in that next workout and really focus on what you’re putting into your body to become the best version of yourself. It is easy to slack off and skip workouts while saying to yourself “i’ll just workout tomorrow” or “i’ll eat better starting tomorrow” if goals are not set. Set those goals today and work hard to achieve them!

3. Lift Weights

Lifting weights and strength training is crucial in order to lose body fat and to build lean muscle. Resistance band training or body weight training such as push-ups, pull-ups or burpees are also considered strength training. Strength training forces your muscles to work hard during and even after your workout. Your body is still burning calories and working your muscles after you lift. Challenging your body is important with lifting weights. Never allow your body to get too comfortable with weights. If you feel a certain weight is becoming too easy, don’t be afraid to increase the weight.

4. Hydrate

Hydration is key. Your body needs electrolytes after your workout because your electrolytes are lost through sweat. Coconut water and pedialyte are great to drink in order to replenish your body after a workout. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is also crucial.

5. No Excuses

Excuses distract you from your goals, taking you further away from the end results you are looking to achieve. No access to the gym? Go online and look up an at home workout or go for a run, one of my favorite workout apps is sworkit. You don’t need weights or cardio machines to have a good workout. There is no excuse to not sweat each day, even if your workout is under 30 minutes. Go out there and stop making excuses!
